Steel Authority of India (Sail) has developed Super Duplex Stainless Steel in SS 32205 grade having 3pc molybdenum content at its Salem Steel Plant (SSP), according to a company release on July 22.

Sail is now among the few steelmakers developing this grade of steel which is primarily imported, according to Anil Kumar Chaudhary, Chairman.

The Super Duplex Stainless Steel has superior corrosion resistance with higher strength and formability. It can be effectively used in corrosion-prone areas like chemical processing equipment; oil and gas exploration; pulp and paper industries; food processing units and biofuel plants.

The company has already started processing orders for it. This grade of steel would enable the company to cater to the high-end steel demand of the country.

Sail’s SSP is a special unit of the Maharatna Company which specialises in the production of quality stainless steel in the form of coils and sheets with an annual installed capacity of 70,000mt in Cold-Rolling Mill and 364,000mt in Hot-Rolling Mill.
