State-owned Steel Authority of India (Sail) reported steel exports of 0.182mn mt in Jan 2020, the highest volume ever in a single month. The company’s sales volume in the month also rose by 35pc to 1.659mn mt from Dec 2019.
In Feb 2017, the company had exported 100,000mt of steel reaching a ten-year high of exports in a single month. In 2018, the company aimed to increase its exports to Japan and Korea. Sail also widened its steel product portfolio to increase exports, according to the local media.
The company also targets to enrich its product basket substantially to cater to the evolving market requirements, according to its statement.
Sail’s sales volume in Apr-Jan 2020 rose by 10.8pc from the prior-year period. In Apr- Jan 2020, Sail’s prime rail production rose by 37pc from the prior year to cross 1mn mt.
