UK-based structural steel manufacturer Severfield has committed to using carbon-free raw materials in its factories by 2050.

The company plans to procure and stock only from those producers that have quantified emissions targets for the medium and long term.

Severfield indicated in a statement on Apr 22 that it has signed up with the SteelZero group and plans to achieve its interim carbon-neutral target by 2030. SteelZero is a non-profit group launched in December 2020 with members committed to buying only net-zero steel from their suppliers.

Severfield specializes in steel construction structures with five facilities across the UK and one in India. It has supplied steel for the construction of the No.1 Court at Wimbledon and the Hotspur Stadium at Tottenham.

The company’s year-ended March 2020 production stood at 95,000mt, and it reported a total potential annual capacity of 150,000mt. Severfield’s total orders for the same period amounted to £271mn.
