Russian steelmaker Severstal has delivered its first shipment of large diameter pipe to Peru, its first South American customer. Maksim Starikov, deputy export sales director, Severstal said that South America is a new destination for the company and has potential for growth. 

 

The steelmaker produced the special pipe order at its Izhaor Pipe plant in St. Petersburg, manufactured to API PSL 1 steel standards. The X52 grade pipes had a thickness of 9.53mm and 762mm in diameter. Severstal’s pipe and tube production stood at 1.19mn mt in 2020, up 2pc against 2019 production in the sector. Severstal produced a total of 10.14mn mt of finished steel and 601,000mt of semi-finished steel in 2020.

 

In related news, Severstal recently announced that its joint venture with Tenaris for a welded pipe plant in West Siberia announced in February 2019 has been placed on hold for further review. The investment was estimated at $240mn over two years to build out an annual capacity of 300,000mt.
