Severstal plans to add a new long-range wire mill 170 section at its Cherepovets Steel Mill (CherMK), in Russia with an investment of RUB11bn ($171.75mn).

 

The mill will produce wire rod in riots of 5.5 to 18mm diameter and circles in coils of 20-32mm diameter. This addition will improve Severstals’ long products profile and metalware supply chain. The 550-meter mill is designed with an annual capacity of 1mn mt and scheduled to launch in the second half of 2022. 

 

Severstal also plans to reconstruct the shaft furnace #1 at its electrical steel smelting and processing facility in CherMK with a total investment of RUB3bn. Post the upgrade, the facility will have flexible steelmaking capacity of 1.3mn mt/yr and process additional volumes of liquid pig iron. The refurbished unit is scheduled for a fourth quarter launch. 

 

In 2019, Severstal produced 11.8mn mt steel and 11mn mt of iron ore pellets.
