Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Shandong Taijia’s 300,000mt stainless steel cold-rolling plant will be put into operation in October. The plant will engage in the production of 300 and 400 series stainless steel products. Earlier, the plant was scheduled to be operational in June.

Shandong Taijia is a 60:40 joint venture between Taigang Group and Guangdong-based Baojia Stainless Steel in China. The project will source stainless steel raw materials from Taigang and complete deep processing work for stainless steel industry chain. Through this project Taigang group can expand its market share in the Shandong province and supply non-high-end SS cold rolled products in the region. It will also help the group reduce overcapacity in Guangdong province.

The main production lines include 20-high standalone rolling units, cold annealing and leveling and pickling units. Initially, the plant was to utilise natural gas for the pickling process of cold-rolled stainless steel plate which is now switched to coke oven gas. To improve product performance of the plant an additional set of tension-straightening unit has been added to the plant. A 5000sq m finished product warehouse is also being added to the original plan.
