Canadian nickel miner, Sherritt International has appointed Lion Binedall as its new president and chief executive officer starting June 1, 2021.
Binedall has more than 25 years of mining industry experience and has served as the chief financial officer of Guyana Goldfields previously. Prior to joining Guyana Goldfields, he served in various leading posts at mining companies managing base metals like nickel.
Binedall will replace Sherritt’s current president and chief executive officer David Pathe, who announced his intention to step down in November 2020 after serving the company for over a decade. He will, however, remain with the company for some more time to ensure a smooth transition.
Sherritt’s nickel production grew by 9pc in Q1 2021 and it expects output to be in the range of 32,000-34,000mt this year.
