Canadian nickel miner Sherritt International has deferred its Alberta-based Fort Saskatchewan plant maintenance from June to August to mitigate COVID-19 risks.
Leone Binedell, Sherritt’s president and chief executive (CEO) reiterated that the deferment translated into higher production levels in Q2 2021 than in Q3 2021 instead of the other way around. He also noted in a statement on Tuesday that an inevitable 11-day maintenance shutdown will have no effect on Sherritt’s 2021 production guidance. Recently the firm had announced that it expects its nickel production this year to be between the 32,000-34,000mt range.
