Kokura, a Greek-origin container ship, is likely to come to Chattogram’s Sitakunda Shipbreaking Yard or India’s Alang in the near term. The ship at present is said to be outside Singapore port limits.
The ship was owned by Greek shipping giant Kostmayer. It was built in 1997 with a capacity of 7,403 TEUs. It is 318 metres long and 43 metres wide. Davis Index sources suggest it has been bought by cash buyers company Somap from Braemar ACM Shipbroking.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the ship has been sold to a buyer in Bangladesh at $323/ldt. Davis Index sources in Alang, however, state the ship will be broken in India. They further state current vessel rates range between $300-310/ldt. The last heard trade this week in Bangladesh for a ship built in 1995 in Japan was at $294/ldt.
