Mining at Sierra Metals’ Yauricocha mine in Peru will remain suspended until April 26. The suspension of operations at the mine was extended by 14 days in compliance with the Peruvian government’s emergency guidelines to contain the spread of COVID-19, according to a company release.

Sierra Metals expects to resume normal production after the emergency is lifted. The company is working with authorities to recommence and ramp up production post the lockdown. The mine’s mill can process over 3,150mt material per day. The mine majorly produces zinc that contributes to around 38pc of production among other metals including lead, copper, gold and silver.

COVID-19 is causing rapid changes in the economy which could affect the company’s operations and financial condition. The company is implementing measures to minimise the possible impacts of the virus on its operations, supply chain and workforce.
