Six outdated steel plants in Xuzhou city in Jiangsu province were closed on June 30 as a part of China’ strict pollution control mission, China Metallurgical News reported.
The Jiangsu Xugang Iron and Steel Group, Jiangsu Xinda Iron and Steel Group, Jiangsu Pengang Iron and Steel Group and Xuzhou Taifa Special Special Steel Technology are among the six plants shutting down.
Special Steel project of Xugang Group is the only plant working in Luguo town. Steelmaking capacity of Xuzhou is around 13mn mt, which is largest in Jiangsu province – the second largest steel producing province in China after Hebei.
Xugang Steel Group in Xuzhou is building a 2,120 cubic meter blast furnace with international standards at Xuzhou Iron and Steel Enterprises. Luguo town is planning to build a manufacturing base in next five years, with an output of around CNY 100bn ($14bn), including the steel industry of CNY 50bn, high end equipment plants of CNY 30bn and CNY 5bn of precision casting plants.
