Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

India’s commercial vehicle manufacturer, SML Isuzu has decided to suspend operations at its Punjab unit till June 11, according to a company release.

Rising COVID-19 cases have led to a shortage of supplies from vendors owing to the continuation of lockdown in various states of India. Additionally, demand for commercial vehicles, particularly busses, has been adversely affected, due to schools and educational institutions being shut across the country.

As a result of both, shortage of parts and the low demand for commercial vehicles, the company has decided to temporarily shut production until June 11 at its manufacturing plant at Village Asron, Distt. Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar (Punjab).

In May the company sold 249 units, in April, 305 units. Compared to the same months in 2020, sales are substantially higher due to negligible sales in 2020. It is to be noted that commercial vehicle sales are sluggish, globally but slowly recovering.
