South32 appointed Jason Economidis as its new joint chief operating officer alongside Mike Fraser.
As of July 1, Economidis will be responsible for Australia Manganese, Cannington, Illawarra Metallurgical Coal (IMC), and Worsley Alumina. Fraser, meanwhile, will oversee Cerro Matoso, Hillside Aluminium, Mozal Aluminium, South Africa Energy Coal, and South Africa Manganese.
Wayne Bull will replace Economidis as IMC’s vice president.
Economidis has served as vice president of operations at IMC since 2018. He joined South32 from Orica, where he was responsible for 25 mining projects as the company’s vice president of coal. He has also previously worked with Vale Coal and BHP in Australia.
Graham Kerr, chief executive officer of South32, said these changes would allow both Economidis and Fraser to work more closely with their respective operations and engage in person wherever possible.
South32 was spun off from BHP Group in 2015, and during its FY2019 it produced 982,000mt of aluminum, 101,000mt of lead, 51,600mt of zinc, and 41,000mt of nickel globally.
