Norsk Hydro closed the €1.38bn sale of its rolling business to KPS Partners today, giving rise to a new company called Speira, which will operate all the assets.
Speira will operate the world’s largest aluminum rolling mill, Alunorf in Neuss, Germany, which has an annual production capacity of 1.6mn mt of aluminum production and includes around 150,000mt of recycled output. Moreover, the firm will operate six other plants and an R&D center across Norway and Germany.
Einar Glomnes, who previously served as the executive vice president (VP) of Hydro Rolling and most recently as Hydro’s VP of operations, has now been appointed as Speira’s chief executive officer. According to a release by the company, it now employs 5,000 workers across its facilities.
