Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Global steelmaker SSAB is planning two collaborations for its fossil-free steel products with Finnish cargo handler Cargotec and French automotive technology specialist Faurecia.

Cargotec and SSAB will jointly develop sustainable equipment in a bid to reduce the former’s carbon footprint and create a fossil-free value chain, noted both organizations in separate statements on Sep 7. The company wants to gain a competitive advantage in the sustainable cargo flow segment.

The Faurecia-SSAB partnership aims to equip sustainable seating structures from 2026 onwards. Faurecia has set its internal carbon neutrality target for 2025 and halving emissions at its downstream suppliers by 2030.

SSAB delivered its first batch of green steel to Volvo this August and may begin mass production in the next five years. The company has set its sights on 2045 to achieve net-zero emissions.
