Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) expects demand for stainless steel to increase by 9-10pc this year compared to 2020.

ISSF’s secretary general, Tim Collins, noted that stainless steel consumption fell only by 2pc in 2020 compared to 2019, despite the pandemic, due to growing consumption in China. He said that the Asian nation’s stainless steel use increased by 6.5pc last year, while consumption in other countries dropped by 11.3-12.6pc during the same period.

He added that ISSF is focused on promoting stainless steel properties like high recyclable content, low GHG emissions, and low-cost life cycle to the industry. The metal can be recycled and reused again without losing its properties while it is also helpful towards reducing CO2 emissions.
