Companies in China’s Hebei province will reduce their cumulative steel production by 14mn mt in 2020, amid environmental concerns. 

 

The production cuts were announced as the Chinese government implemented stricter norms to curb pollution and reduce consumption of energy and water, according to China’s Ministry of Metallurgy. 

 

The Hebei province will also reduce production of coal by 6mn mt and carbon coke by 2mn mt. In 2019, steelmakers in the province reduced their steel production by 14.02mn mt on Chinese government’s sanctions. Companies in the province also reduced the production of coal by 10.6mn mt and coke by 3.19mn mt last year.
