Steel Strips Wheels’ (SSW) tractor segment has ramped up operations to 90pc capacity utilisation amid expectations of seasonal demand ahead of the sowing season. With hopes of sales picking up, the company is operating on a three-shift basis.

SSW expects strong production figures in June and is also likely to witness a single-digit growth over the prior-year period. The company’s monthly export orders are 60pc of sales. It looks to export 2.5mn units in the fiscal year 2021 ending in March, with a possibility of reaching 3mn units in case of new orders from the US and EU.

The company’s Mehsana plant would operate at 50pc capacity utilization in June if there is healthy demand from domestic carmakers. It is also anticipating the production capacity to reach over 70pc in the coming months.

SSW manufactures steel wheel rims and caters to Indian and global automobile manufacturers. It has production facilities at Dappar (Punjab), Oragadam (Chennai) manufacturing passenger car wheels. The company’s Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) facility manufactures truck wheels. The total installed capacity of all three units is 16.6mn wheels.
