Steel construction company SteelFab is expanding its operations in Florence, SC, by investing over $5mn.

According to a news release from the Department of Commerce (DoC), the company, which is among the top American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) certified structural steel fabricators in the US, will also create new employment opportunities at the facility. SteelFab currently manages eight fabrication facilities across the Southeast, Texas, and Oregon, with a combined yearly capacity of more than 140,000/nt (127,000mt) of plate, beams, columns, channel pipe, and tubing material.

The development will increase its total capacity for cutting, drilling and structural steel fabrication. Moreover, the expansion will construct a third production line while two existing production lines will be moved to a new location on the property.

Construction for the expansion project is slated for completion by the second quarter of next year, while the entire development is expected to be finished in 2025.

Rob Rutherford, president of SteelFab’s South Carolina Division, said the expansion represents the company’s greatest capital injection at its Florence location since it opened in 1988, according to the DoC.

SteelFab offers welding, coating, assembly, fabrication, and other related services for steel products over its 15 facilities throughout the US.
