Stelco Holdings is set to begin production using its new Lake Erie Works blast furnace in Ontario early next month.
In an update the company provided, the blast furnace upgrade is on schedule and on budget, and is projected to reduce steel coil production costs by at least C$30 per net ton. The Canadian company said noted it will operate with an advanced technology blast furnace for at least the next three to four decades.
With the upgrade, Stelco’s metal production is expected to increase by up to 300,000mt per year, it said in a statement.
