Japanese automaker Subaru’s US subsidiary – Subaru of America – reported a 23pc increase in sales during Q1 2021 and 102pc growth in March, compared to a year ago. 

 

In January-March this year, the company sold 160,426 units, compared with 130,591 units in the same period in 2020. In March, Subaru of America’s sales doubled to 65,726 units from 32,611 units in the prior-year period. 

 

Despite the semiconductor shortage, many automakers have reported higher sales in Q1 2021, depicting a strong recovery in the sector. Thomas Doll, president and chief executive officer of Subaru of America, said that these were the best first-quarter sales in the company’s 53-year history.
