Taiwan’s industrial production index climbed by 9.9pc to 129.1 in December 2020 against the same month a year ago, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The manufacturing index increased by 10.4pc to 131.5 as mining & quarrying rose by 13.5pc to 120.8 in December 2020 compared to the same year-ago month. The basic metal products index climbed by 14.3pc to 108.2 as fabricated metal products index rose by 13.73pc to 111.8, and non-metallic mineral products increased by 0.5pc to 106, all in December 2020 against the same year-ago period.
The Basic metals index saw negative movement in most months of 2020 compared to months in 2019 except for February and September-December in the latter part of the year as steel sales and prices bounced back from the initial contraction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Taiwan’s machinery and equipment index increased by 14.3pc to 126.1 in December 2020 compared to the same month in 2019. Motor vehicles and parts index increased by 21.6pc to 123.8 as transport equipment and parts improved by 20.6pc to 142.76, both in December 2020 against the same month in 2019. The index has its base year as 2016.
