Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Tata Steel has commissioned a 500,000mt steel recycling plant in Rohtak, Haryana. The plant is in collaboration with Aarti Green Tech on a Build, Own, Operate (BOO) basis. Scrap sourced from the local market will be processed to produce baled and shredded ferrous scrap.

The facility has mechanised shredder, baler and material handling equipment and will process local scrap from end-of-life vehicles, obsolete households, industrial and construction and demolition.

Downstream steelmakers in the region could procure scrap from this unit, which aims to supply high-quality processed scrap to reduce dependency on imports.

Tata Steel has launched two new brands Tata FerroBaled and Tata FerroShred for the baled and shredded Fe scrap produced in the new facility.

Speaking on the occasion, Yogesh Bedi, who heads Tata’s steel recycling business said, steel can be recycled again and again without losing its properties. Thus steel scrap is a valuable resource for the future of steel making. Recycling scrap ensures the closure of the circular economy loop.
