Tata Metaliks has suspended production of pig iron and DI pipes amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and a 21-day national lockdown imposed by the Indian government. Operations were halted on March 28.
The company is closely monitoring the situation as per the directions issued by the regulatory authorities. Operations at Tata Metaliks will resumes as and when the situation gets normalised, said a company release. Tata Metaliks has prioritised the health and safety of its employees and remains focused on cash conservation to ensure liquidity. The adverse impact of the temporary shutdown of production on its operations and financial performance cannot be determined at this stage, said the release.
Tata Metaliks’s Kharagpur, West Bengal facility produces pig iron and manufactures DI pipes. The plant produces around 550,000mt of hot metal annually, of which over 200,000mt is converted into DI Pipes and the rest into pig iron.
