Tata Metaliks plans to temporarily shut one its blast furnaces and associated facilities at Kharagpur, West Bengal, from Aug 13, for repair and maintenance works. The plant’s Ductile Iron (DI) pipe unit will also be shut for the planned maintenance, stated a company release. 

 

The company’s furnace will be out of operation for four to five days, while the DI pipe plant will be closed for seven days. The facilities of both BF and DI pipe are expected to resume work by Aug 24.

 

Earlier, Tata Metaliks announced plans to increase DI pipe production capacity to 400,000mt in the next two years.

 

Tata Metaliks is a subsidiary of Tata Steel. The plant at Kharagpur produces 550,000mt of hot metal, of which 200,000mt is converted into DI pipes and the rest into pig iron.
