Tata Motors has resumed operations at its Uttarakhand and Gujarat plants while Ashok Leyland has restarted activities at its plants across India. Auto ancillary, Steel Strip Wheels has also resumed operations at three of its manufacturing units.

 

Production of passenger and commercial vehicles at Tata’s plants in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand and Sanand, Gujarat commenced last week. Other plants in Lucknow, Dharwad, Jamshedpur and Pune are preparing to resume production in the coming days. The company is taking appropriate measures towards the health and safety of employees amid COVID-19. The automaker has also resumed around 200 dealerships across India. 

 

Ashok Leyland which has seven manufacturing units in India plans to gradually ramp up production across all its facilities to make up for the production loss during the lockdown.

 

Automotive wheels manufacturer, Steel Strip Wheels has resumed operations at its Chennai, Tamil Nadu; Dappar, Punjab and Mehsana Gujarat at 50pc capacity. It plans to cater to the domestic and export markets. Steel Strip expects orders to increase in the near term and will ramp up production as the global automotive markets restart.
