Tata Steel Mining has successfully acquired the mining lease of Kamarda chromite mine and Saruabil chromite mine in Jajpur, Odisha on June 24, a company release announced.
The company had emerged as the highest bidders. Saruabil chrome deposit was held by Misrilall Mine while Kamarda deposit was held by BC Mohanty and Sons. The leases granted were for 50 years and are the first to be converted into mining leases in India.
Chromium is used in manufacturing of stainless steel, tool steel, and armour-piercing projectiles.
