Danieli Automation has won Tata Steel UK’s tender to revamp the latter’s continuous annealing processing line at its Trostre Works in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, South Wales.

According to an announcement by Danieli on Wednesday, the technical upgrades will include a complete replacement of the line’s automation system, new DC converters for the more than 140 existing strip transportation motors, and new MCC cabinets.

  • The project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2021. This order follows the one for the revamping of the hot-dip galvanizing line #6 at Shotton Works for Tata Steel UK, where commissioning is expected by December 2020.

The Trostre plant manufactures up to 400,000mt/year of tinplated steel, electro chromium coated steel, and laminated steel primarily for packaging applications such as food and drinks cans, aerosols, and paint tins.

The plant’s customers include Heinz, Ball Packaging Europe, and Crown Holdings.

Hot rolled steel is supplied by the company’s Port Talbot (Wales) and Ijmuiden (Netherlands) steelworks, and some cold-rolled steel from Llanwern (Wales).
