Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Ternium’s Pesquería, Mexico hot strip plant has successfully commissioned two new 400mt per hour reheating walking beam furnaces (WBF) supplied by Tenova.

Pesquería’s plant director Paulo Lopez noted that the two additional furnaces are part of the plant’s new lines commissioned as a component of the second phase of the 4.4mn mt annual capacity mill. The plant is anticipated to reach full capacity by late 2021.

As the WBFs heat steel slab, the installed units display strong energy savings and lower emissions compared to other furnaces available in the market. The units have a network of embedded sensors and software to timely optimize operations, production, and maintenance.

The hot rolling mill lines produce coils to be used in the automotive market, which expands Ternium’s product lines to service the industry.

Ternium also operates the modern furnaces in San Nicolas, Argentina, and Monterrey, Mexico plants.
