US electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla sold 8,621 units in China last month, down 69pc from 28,138 units sold in July 2020, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) noted. In the same report, the CPCA pointed out that overall Chinese automotive sales fell 6.4pc on an annual basis to 1.52 million units.
According to media reports, the company produced 32,968 units of the Model 3 and Model Y in China last month, of which 24,347 units were exported. Market participants indicated that Tesla’s sales in the first month of any quarter are usually worse than the two succeeding it. Notably, Tesla has discounted the price of both models made and sold in China in the past quarter, amid increasing competition from Chinese manufacturers.
