Thailand’s semi-finished steel import fell by 7pc in April to 1,98,523 mt from the prior-year period but rose by 41pc from the prior month, as per Davis Index analysis.
In April, Japan was the highest semi-finished steel exporter to Thailand with 38pc share at 74,650mt, followed by Oman with 20pc at 40,001mt. Indian exports to Thailand were 21,255mt; Russia 20,204mt; Vietnam 20,198mt.
Thailand produced 4mn mt crude steel. Steel mills in Thailand are mostly scrap-based. Davis Index analysis showed the country’s ferrous scrap imports surged by 261pc in April to 134,396 mt, from the prior year. Ferrous scrap imports decreased by 25pc compared to the prior month.
US was the highest ferrous scrap exporter to Thailand in April with 30pc share at 40,649mt, followed by Japan at 17pc or 23,251mt; Panama at 9pc or 11,923mt.
