Turkish steelmaker Tosyali Demir Celik Sanayi has ordered a second Quantum electric-arc furnace (EAF) from Primetals, to take its annual output to nearly 4mn mt once both EAFs are commissioned by late 2022.
The EAF will have an installed capacity of 2mn mt of liquid steel and will be fed by both scrap and hot-briquetted iron (HBI). Both the EAFs will be set up by Primetals in Tosyali’s new facility in Iskenderun, Turkey.
The new slab caster will also increase production to 3.4mn mt per year from the earlier 2mn mt projection. Slabs will be produced with 225mm thickness and width ranging from 900-1,800mm.
