Toyota Motor Corp will halt production at 14 lines in nine units in Japan after the northeast part of the country was hit by an earthquake last week.

These lines will be shut for up to four days starting from Wednesday. The earthquake affected Toyota’s parts manufacturing business, stated the company. Of all the nine units, the Miyata factory will be shut for two days, while the other plants will be shut for three to four days.

These 14 production lines account for half of the total in Japan. The earthquake has affected vehicle units at the plants, but the company is yet to disclose the exact number. The suspension of production could also be prolonged after gauging the situation.

Over 100 people were injured in the earthquake on Sunday and many trains were halted over northeastern Japan, according to local media. These logistical issues will also hinder production and hurt supply lines along with widespread power outages.
