Auto manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor will temporarily halt work at two plants at Bidadi in the state of Karnataka to carry out annual maintenance from April 26 to May 14.
The temporary halt will affect production while supply of vehicles will be limited. The immediate demand from consumers will be met from the current inventory pipeline of finished goods.
The company has clarified that the temporary shutdown is solely for maintenance purposes and not related to COVID-19 cases or shortage of semiconductor chips. During maintenance, only a few employees will be permitted wo work and expected to maintain social-distancing protocols.
The two factories at Bidadi have a consolidated annual production capacity of 310,000 units.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor is the second major company to halt production in India after Hero MotoCorp. The two-wheeler manufacturer had suspended production from April 22 at all its five plants in India owing to escalating COVID-19 cases.
