Trevali has temporarily halted operations at its Santander mine in Lima, Peru on June 26 due to reports of 19 positive COVID-19 infections. All cases are asymptomatic and are being quarantined safely.

 

The company decided to temporarily suspend mining and milling activities to focus on the health and safety of Santander’s workforce. A timeline to resume has not yet been disclosed by the company. 

 

The Vancouver-based company’s Caribou mine in Bathurst, New Brunswick, has been shut since March 26. The mine produces 42,200mt of zinc and 14,750mt of lead annually. 

 

The Santander mine produced 32,023mt of zinc, 5,216mt of lead, and 17,094mt of silver last year. The project was expected to deliver higher outputs in the second half of 2020.
