Russian pig iron producer and exporter Tulachermet produced 2.4mn mt of pig iron in July, up by 5pc and 7pc from June and May, respectively. An overhaul of BF no.3 carried out in the first half of 2020 helped the company raise its production, according to a press release.
The company could achieve 95pc of 2006’s record volume through production from two blast furnaces. The record production volume in 2006 was achieved through operations of three blast furnaces.
In Q2 2020, the company produced 562,000mt of pig iron, down by 8pc from the preceding quarter. Iron ore production rose by 1pc in the quarter to 1.22mn mt from 1.20mn mt in the previous quarter.
In H1, pig iron output declined by 4pc to 1.17mn mt from the prior-year period as BF no.3 remained shut for maintenance in March-April.
The company’s pig iron supply share in the domestic market increased to 68pc due to additional demand generated by the Tula Steel plant which became operational in the summer of 2019.
