Turkey’s passenger and light commercial vehicle sales jumped in January by 60.3pc from the previous-year period, according to a statement by the Turkish auto body Automotive Distributors’ Association (ODD).  

 

A total of 43,728 units were sold across Turkey. Sales of passenger cars were 80pc of the total with 35,358 units sold, up 60.6pc from the previous year. Sales of light commercial vehicles were reported at 8,370 units, up 59.2pc from Jan 2020 levels.

 

Turkey’s automotive sector ended 2020 on a strong note despite being hit by supply-side issues and lower demand amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Sales rose by 61.3pc to 772,788 units in 2020 compared to the prior year.

 

According to the latest data by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), new car registrations fell by 23.7pc, to 9.9mn units. Other major European markets recorded a double-digit decline- Spain 32pc, Italy 28pc, and 25pc dip in France. German car sales fell 18pc from the prior year.
