Turkey’s total auto production slipped to 65,418 units in July, down by 44pc from a year ago. Passenger car production fell almost by 60pc to 33,529 units.

 

Total production in the Jan-July period is up by 10pc at 705,079 units from the prior-year period. Passenger car production is 2.2pc higher in the Jan-July period at 449,550 units from 2020.

 

Production of commercial vehicles in July 2021 fell to 31,889 units, 20pc lower than the prior year. Production of tractors rose by 5.7pc to 3,502 units.

 

In the first seven months of the year, commercial vehicles’ production totaled 255,529 units, 29pc above the prior year. Tractor production in the seven months has grown 97pc to 33,250 units compared to a year ago.

 

Shortage of semiconductors has affected production in July. Demand for electronics has restricted chip supply to the auto industry since the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Turkish automotive association had announced a ramp-up of production early this year to cater to growing demand. But the tight supply of semiconductors since the beginning of the year hurt production targets, not just in Turkey but globally.
