Turkey’s steel billet exports and imports decreased by 48.4pc and 2.1pc, respectively, in 2020, according to statistical source SteelData.

 

Turkish producers exported 682,000mt of semis last year compared to 1.32mn mt in 2019 amid a challenging market. Billet shipments to Morocco rose by 8.3pc to 318,000mt over the period under review but dropped by 8.7pc to 85,000mt to Tunisia and by 75.6pc to 51,000mt to Saudi Arabia.

 

Turkish companies found new destinations in 2020 and exported 105,000mt of billets to Peru and 20,000mt of semis to Jordan, while their shipments to other destinations plunged significantly.

 

Turkey’s imports of billet totaled 1.59mn mt in 2020 compared to 1.62mn mt in 2019, according to SteelData. Billet supply from Russia decreased by 3.1pc to 977,000mt, but its import from Ukraine and Belarus increased by 11.3pc and 78.9pc to 431,000mt and 36,000mt, respectively.
