Billet import into Turkey doubled, while the supply of slab decreased by 37.5pc in January-February 2021, according to SteelData.

 

Turkish billet imports reached 613,000mt in the first two months of the year compared to 305,000mt in the same period last year. CIS countries supplied 79pc of semis, while Russia raised its shipments to Turkey by 55pc to 322,000mt during the period under review. Ukraine’s billet supply doubled to 161,000mt.

 

Turkey’s billet imports from Qatar and Oman tallied at 48,000mt and 37,000mt, respectively, in January-February 2021.

 

Slab imports to Turkey totaled 290,000mt in January-February compared with 465,000mt in the same period of last year, according to SteelData. Ukraine was the main supplier and increased its shipments by 94pc to 193,000mt, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom, which shipped 57,000mt and 30,000mt of semis to Turkey, respectively.

 

In February 2021, Turkey imported 410,000mt of billet and 119,000mt of slab.
