Turkey passenger car sales in April stood at 48,375 vehicles, up 122pc from the prior year month. Light commercial vehicles sales jumped by 183pc to 13,113 units compared to the prior year month. 

 

Overall, auto sales including passenger cars and commercial vehicle segment was up 132pc to 61,488 units in April against April 2020. Data was released by Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) on Tuesday.

 

April sales were strong compared to year prior month but has fallen relative to the prior month by about 36pc. March recorded the highest monthly figure and the best quarterly figure ever for Turkey.

April sales increased on the back of low-interest rate sales promotion and buyers preferring to book cars before weakening of lira. April 2020 was a weak month as COVID-19 cases were rising and only 26,457 units were sold in the month last year.

 

Fiat sold the most cars in April 2021, around 8,716 cars followed by 7,125 units sold by Volkswagen. Renault sold 6,674 units and Ford sold 5,478 units. 

 

From January–April, commercial and passenger vehicle sales rose 72.4pc to 260,148 units compared to the year prior period. 

Turkey has gone into a strict lockdown on April 29 until May 17 to curb rising COVID-19 cases.
