Imports of ferrous scrap into Turkey increased by 44pc in April to 2.48mn mt from 1.72mn mt in the same month last year according to the country’s Customs data.

 

Imports also rose by 11pc from 2.23mn mt of ferrous scrap shipped into Turkey this March. Shipments to Turkey in the first four months of the year tallied at 8.8mn mt up from 7mn mt during January-April 2020, the data indicated.

 

In terms of volume, the USA emerged as the largest exporter to Turkey, shipping 548,060mt of scrap in April, up 52pc from 361,597mt in the same month last year. The Netherlands was in second place with 336,506mt a 12pc increase from 300,724mt in April 2020. Exports from the UK rose by 3pc to 266,352mt from 257,367mt during the same period, to round off the top three exporters to the country.
