Billet imports into Turkey more than doubled to 1.87mn mt in January-June 2021 compared to 840,000mt in H1 2020, according to SteelData.
CIS countries supplied 77pc of steel semis, with Russia’s shipments to Turkey rising 2.1 times to 1.05mn mt during the period under review and Ukraine’s supply increasing by 24pc to 330,000mt.
Turkey’s billet imports from Algeria, Qatar, and Oman tallied at 118,000mt, 97,000mt, and 92,000mt, respectively, in the first six months of 2021.
In June 2021, Turkey imported 162,000mt of steel billet versus 191,000mt in the same month a year ago, according to SteelData. Supply of semis from Russia and Ukraine totaled 126,000mt and 10,000mt, respectively.
