Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Turkish steelmaker Icdas Celik Enerji Tersane ve Ulasim Sanayi AS (Icdas) is partnering with Italian manufacturer Danieli to install a new wirerod line at its mill in Biga.

This will be the third wirerod line at the Icdas plant, where two other lines have been operational since 2005. Icdas aims to increase its market share of wirerod coils and also add more advanced steel grades to its product portfolio through this upgrade.

The new line is designed to produce a wide range of steel grades, including welding wire, high carbon (pc wire & tyre cord), cold heading, bearing steel, spring steel, free cutting, and alloyed steels, at a maximum rolling speed of 110 m/sec. New equipment is expected to start operations by Q2 2021.

Recently, Habas also announced the installation of a new wirerod line in its Aliaga steelmaking plant, to produce a wide range of steel grades. The start of operations is scheduled for Q3 2021.

Icdas and Habas are among the biggest steel producers in Turkey with a yearly crude steel capacity of around 4mn mt and 4.75mn mt, respectively.
