Turkey’s auto production in May rose 34.1pc to 87,260 units from a year ago. Production for the first five months has reached 556,513 units, up 30.7pc from the prior-year period, according to the data was released by the Automotive Manufacturers Association (OSD) on June 14.

 

Passenger car production in May rose 54pc to 66,976 units from a year ago and in Jan-May, production increased 22pc to 353,580 units.

 

The commercial vehicle segment recorded a de-growth in May of 20pc with 19,883 units produced compared to 2020. In Jan – May 2021, production of commercial vehicles, however, was up 40.5pc to 178,861 units from Jan-May 2020.

 

Several Turkish auto manufacturing units were forced to halt production in the first half of 2020 due to COVID-19.  In 2021, despite the virus-related lockdowns, production in Turkey was not affected. The country levied restrictions in March, with a complete lockdown in April owing to the hike in COVID-19 cases. Since mid-May, lockdown measures were gradually eased.
