Turkish companies decreased their metallics imports by 46pc to 97,500mt in January compared to the same month last year due to the improved availability of imported ferrous scrap at attractive prices.
Turkey imported 59,000mt of pig iron during the period under review, according to statistical source SteelData. Both Ukraine and Russia reduced their shipments of the material to the country by 10pc and by 74pc to 23,000mt and 19,000mt, respectively. However, Turkey doubled its pig iron import from Germany to 16,000mt.
Supply of hot briquetted iron (HBI) to Turkey dropped by 47pc to 38,500mt in January compared to January 2020, according to SteelData. Libya reduced its shipments by 27pc to 22,000mt during the period under review. Turkey also imported 16,500mt of HBI from Russia, while there was no supply from this destination in January 2020.
