Turkish companies reduced their metallics imports by 34pc to 183,000mt in January-February 2021 compared to the same period last year as ferrous scrap purchases gained priority.
Turkey imported 116,000mt of pig iron during the period under review, according to statistical source SteelData. Ukraine, Russia, and Germany decreased their shipments of the material to the country by 20pc, 77pc, and 33pc to 38,000mt, 26,000mt, and 18,000mt, respectively. At the same time, Turkey imported 33,000mt of pig iron from Brazil during the first two months, while there were no shipments from this destination a year ago.
Supply of hot briquetted iron (HBI) to Turkey dropped by 17pc to 67,000mt in January-February 2021 compared to January-February 2020, according to SteelData. The main suppliers were Libya and Russia, which shipped 50,500mt of the material and 16,500mt, respectively.
