Turkey metallics imports decreased by 19pc to 690,000mt in the first six months of 2021 compared to the same period last year as ferrous scrap purchases took priority.
According to statistical source SteelData, pig iron supply to Turkey dropped by 10pc to 553,000mt during the period under review. Ukraine increased shipments of the material by 24pc to 166,000mt, while Russia reduced them by 52pc to 159,000mt. Turkey also imported 117,000mt of pig iron from Brazil, 57,000mt from Germany, and 36,000mt from India.
The country imported 118,000mt of the material in June 2021, versus 111,000mt in the same month a year ago.
Supply of hot briquetted iron (HBI) to Turkey fell by 42pc to 137,000mt in January-June 2021 compared to the same period last year, according to SteelData. Libya, Russia, and the USA shipped 74,000mt, 43,000mt, and 19,000mt, respectively, and were the key suppliers.
Turkey imported 26,000mt of HBI this June compared to 50,000mt in the prior year period.
