Turkey decreased its metallics imports by 21pc to 546,000mt in the first five months of 2021 compared to the same period last year. According to statistical source SteelData, pig iron supply to Turkey fell by 14pc to 435,000mt during the period under review.
Ukraine increased shipments of the material by 15pc to 151,000mt, while Russia reduced them by 52pc to 115,000mt. Turkey also imported 67,000mt of pig iron from Brazil, 48,000mt from Germany, and 36,000mt from India.
Supply of hot briquetted iron (HBI) to Turkey dropped by 40pc to 111,000mt in January-May 2021 compared to the same period last year, SteelData reported. Libya and Russia shipped 72,000mt and 38,500mt, respectively, and were the key suppliers.
