Turkey decreased its metallics imports by 31pc to 767,000mt in the first seven months of 2021 compared to the same period last year amid higher ferrous scrap purchases.
According to statistical source SteelData, pig iron supply to Turkey dropped by 18pc to 627,000mt during the period under review. Russia and Ukraine decreased shipments of the material by 51pc and 5pc to 198,000mt and 196,000mt, respectively. Turkey also imported 117,000mt of pig iron from Brazil, 60,000mt from Germany, and 36,000mt from India.
In July, Turkey imported 74,000mt of the material compared to 152,000mt in the same month a year ago.
Supply of hot briquetted iron (HBI) to Turkey fell by 60pc to 140,000mt in January-July 2021 compared to the same period last year, according to SteelData. Libya, Russia, and the USA shipped 77,000mt, 43,000mt, and 19,000mt, respectively, and were the key suppliers.
In July 2021, Turkey imported only 3,000mt of HBI compared to 112,000mt in the same month a year ago. All the material was supplied from Libya.
